Jupiter - 4 May 2007

Home | Jupiter

All these pictures of were taken using the Meade 2x Barlow with a 10 inch Meade LX200 GPS telescope and a Logitech Quickcam Pro 4000.

Bad seeing - here are 20 percent of the processed results anyway.

Unfortunately Sutherland has its (fair ?) share of fast seeing nights as well.

50 frames out of 300

Plan was to determine how long I could expose Jupiter for with the telescope in Polar Mode.

During the past few days I exposed for 60 seconds - these exposures were for 120 seconds.

Unfortunately the bad seeing made it impossible to determine the correct exposure duration - before Jupiter's rotation started smearing the image.

I also wanted to determine the correct number of frames to stack: 50, 100, 150 or 200 out of 600. I could not determine this because of the bad seeing.

I got two formulas to determine max. exp. time for Jupiter. One answer is 120 seconds - the other answer is 180 seconds.

Doing the polar alignment using Astrosnap was ... a snap.

Doing polar alignment was straightforward using its built in facility ... as shown in this severely compressed JPG screen print.

Ganymede is on the left.

Conclusion: Results inconclusive - bad seeing.
